Description
A large and very well executed mid century modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto canvas. In this composition, four onions sit amidst a copper lid and vessel. The colour palette is restrained, focused mainly on purple, green, and orangey brown. Expressionist brushstrokes fill the background, creating a wonderful light and shadow effect, while echoing the colours of the objects in the foreground. The artist has very successfully captured the colour variation of the skin of the onions as well as the reflective surface of the copper objects. This large painting would look brilliant in a kitchen or dining setting. It is presented in a simple wood frame that complements it perfectly. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition. Size: 67 x 72 cm (including frame)
