Description

A type of Middle Eastern rug called Gabbeh. The Gabbeh is a hand-woven rug, traditionally made by nomadic people in southern Iran. The Gabbeh rug is made of plant dyed handspun wool yarn, the pattern is made with knots tied onto a woollen warp. The rug is typically divided into large fields of solid colour. The word Gabbeh means raw, natural, uncut. Gabbeh is much thicker than other Middle Eastern rugs. The Iranian Gabbeh manufacturers were one of the few that persisted in working with natural vegetable dyes through the twentieth century, their rugs therefore became very popular in the western world, especially in the second half of the twentieth century. This model adds other colour tones to the typical blue-red, it remains purely geometrical, without typical animal motifs. The rug is in a good condition.
