Description
The name Karabagh (” black garden ”) is linked to a group of carpets and kilims from the south-east of the Caucasus that have black or dark brown fields and are decorated with flowers and roses. After the colonial expansion of the nineteenth century in the region, due to a strong European influence the Armenian population of the villages of Karabagh gave birth to a production of artefacts with subjects quite different from the tradition: portraits of people or animals (ducks, lions, horses, dogs, deer, etc.) Or even postcards with views from around the world that, despite a coarse knot, where cleverly rendered.
