A table reading lamp with engraved glass with portraits from the 15th century A table reading amp on a base of a book with a curved stand, on top of which is a square of glass-engraved portraits with paper in the background. The portraits are T.A. Kempis, W. Gansfort, R. Agricola and D. Erasmus. The lamp has a porcelain fitting and a short electrical wire with an old plug. The text on the spine of the book is IN ANCELLO CUM LIBELLO. (‘Alone with a Book’). The lampshade is made of metal and colored in a bronze color and can be rotated. In the stand made of metal there is a name (mark), but illegible. The lid on the lampshade is loose. * D. Many variations of his last name are seen and he is sometimes incorrectly called Johan Wessel. * Rodolphus Agricola (1443 – 1485) was a Dutch humanist of the Northern Low Countries, famous for his knowledge of Latin and Greek. He was an educator, musician, builder of church organs, a poet in Latin and the vernacular, a diplomat, a boxer and a Hebrew scholar towards the end of his life The measurement is 28 cm high, 18 cm wide and 11 cm deep.
