Description
Lovely French antique Crystal chandelier-style table lamp. At the end of the 19th century, these standing lamps had candles and were often used on pianos. One thought is even that music was written in “parts” so that pianists could have a change of candles! Girandoles were also placed next to card tables and in entry halls wherever a flush of lower light was desired. They were eventually converted into electric lamps. The richest merchant family at the time of Louis XIV was the Trudon family (who are still in business today). They had the exclusive right to sell candles to the court of Versailles.
