Description
Another stunning collection from the thoughtful and sophisticated design duo Formafantasma. Commissioned by Viennas MAK museum and crafted by Lobmeyrs master artisans, the studios latest project will infuse your dining table with the refinement of the Biedermeier era.
Once the summerhouse of a wealthy Viennese bankerand now a part of the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK)the Geymllerschlssel is a spectacular example of haute bourgeoisie taste at the turn of the 19th century. MAKs head curator Thomas Geisler invited Formafantasma to create a site-specific installation that engages the storied beauty of this landmark villa (built 1808) and explores the impact of the early Industrial Revolution on domestic interiors. The Alphabet collection, produced by 150-year-old Austrian glass company Lobmeyr, represents the next step in this fascinating project.
The individual Alphabet Water and Wine Glasses are each engraved with one of 12 patterns inspired by the villas Biedermeier interior and Lobmeyrs rich archives. The glasses are intended to be presented upside down and one inside the other. Like a crystal cloche used to cover a small treasure, the bigger glass protects the smaller one and the two engraved patterns combine to form a new design. The thin lines of gold painted on the rim of each glass mark the perfect positioning. This collection highlights the pleasure of diversity within a set of objects while revisiting the rules of table setting.
