Description
This is a stunning vintage art nouveau mirror featuring a design by Aubrey Beardsley titled A Suggested Reform in Ballet Costume from A Second Book of Fifty Drawings, produced: L. Smithers & Co.: London, 1899
The artwork mirror contains intricate illustrations featuring a figure adorned in an elaborate costume. The design is characterised by an intricate play of black and white patterns with bursts of colour, which form highly detailed, floral and organic motifs cascading down the costume’s length. The figures head, framed by elaborate curls, is slightly tilted to the side, with a serene expression. The elaborate attire further extends outward, creating an exaggerated and theatrical silhouette. The meticulous detailing and stylised form are emblematic of Aubrey Beardsleys distinct illustrative style within the Art Nouveau movement.
The piece comes in vivid colours with a hint of luscious red in an art nouveau design, set in a light to a mid-coloured sleek wooden frame.
