Description
Yevtushenko and Friends, Poetry in Concert, New York 1972 Poster
On January 28, 1972 at the Felt Forum in Madison Square Garden in New York, Yevgeny Yevtushenko – a young Russian protest poet – together with important American poets such as Eugene McCarthy, gave rise to a reading of their works, with musical accompaniment.
It was the first attempt to elevate poetry reading in America to the dimensions of a public event, and almost to the dimensions of a sporting event
